Wil Loesel Teaches Cancer a Lesson
Wil knows a lot of people. You’re a lucky person if you know him. He’s probably made you laugh. A lot. You might know what a great friend he is. You may be a raging Culture VI fan - (Bugzy Bogart for LIFE!). You definitely know what an incredible father he is to his two amazing little boys Sean and Aidan. Like seriously he’s the best dad ever. Maybe you’ve met him since he found his true calling as a teacher and you’re his colleague or his student. Maybe I’d be able to do math without my iPhone if I had as awesome a teacher as Wil.
Maybe you know him as your favorite nephew. You might be fortunate enough to call him Cousin Billy like we do. Billy has always made an effort to make sure our family stays connected although we all lead very different lives and live in 6 different states. He’s given us some of the best memories, too many laughs, and a space for the next generation of our family (Georgie, Sean, Aidan, and Maddie) to form life-long bonds like we have. Regardless of how you know him you know he hasn’t had an easy life. He’s faced more hardships than anyone should. He wears his heart on his sleeve - literally he has 40+ tattoos. He loves fiercely. He stands up for what he believes in. He can laugh when others may want to cry. And he’s in a tough spot right now but keeping his humor and positive outlook at the forefront.
He was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and began receiving chemo treatments this week. The cancer is aggressive. So is the treatment. And Wil is going to fight like hell so he can continue being an outstanding dad, an inspiring teacher, and so he can consume 50+ chicken McNuggets and captain the boat at our next cousin’s reunion.
