The Begining of the journey,
Hi, my name is Brian Freeman a 23-yr. a veteran of the law enforcement community in Georgia. As life happens I wasn't prepared for life to change so drastically. Married for 21 years with 3 kids I understood life happens. I have always known danger and uncertainty as a Swat member, Detective, and Narcotics agent & Patrolman in Georgia but nothing prepared me for this life-changing news I received in January 2018. "Mr. Freeman you need a KIDNEY! With my wife by my side life started to change. The news of needing a kidney, the process involved with being put on a national registry and countless stories of families still waiting was devasting. Thoughts of the unthinkable invading my mind, fearful of the impact not only on my life but how will this affect my family. Thankfully, my wife Sheimicka is a strong woman of great faith who loves me. She decided to get tested to be my "living donor" and she is a full match. Unfortunately, we didn't think she would be able because of concerns with her surviving kidney producing stones. For the last month, she has had to take medication to lower numbers that would affect her kidney that remained. Well, we are proud to say she has done it with medication and diet change. Yay! The surgery is on but has to happen soon because my wife starts graduate school in August. Surgery Date July 24th, 2019. I will be out of work for 3 months and my wife for one month.

While thoughts of the emotional and physical aspects of the process linger on for both of us we have yet another hurdle to cross, the financial aspect of a Kidney Transplant. I am the primary bread-winner of the family with Sheimicka being a full-time college student and entrepreneur, we would be without full income during recovery. With a two-income household, the loss of my Part time income working security and each one of us having surgery, this will be a financial burden to our family. We the Freeman family will now need a myriad of financial support in the weeks after surgery. We are asking would you please consider donating to assist us in helping with the living expenses while we both are recovering and pressing forward to get back to life as we know it before this diagnosis. Funds raised here will offset living expenses, help assist us with our daughter going to high school as a freshman and help us with our son prepare for his second semester year as a junior at Clark Atlanta University majoring in Psychology.

Georgia Kidney Foundation:
As a client of Georgia Transplant Foundation’s (GTF) Transplant Fundraising Program (TFP) and I am fundraising for costs related to my solid organ transplant that will not be covered by my current insurance plan. My wife will be my living donor and we are looking to of set surgery cost through fundraising.
Through my involvement with GTF, I may be eligible to receive matched funds up to $10,000 for every dollar that I raise, which can be used for my post-transplant related costs.
Transplantation can be an overwhelming situation and patients are encouraged to plan ahead for some of the uncovered and unforeseeable costs. GTF thanks you for your support of my endeavor to assume self-responsibility for my medical needs through fundraising.
FACT: The cost of immunosuppressive medications typically ranges from $20,600 to $32,900 per year and even with insurance, medicine co-pays can be unaffordable. Fundraising is a matter of life and death for some transplant candidates and a matter of quality of life for others.

Like many other couples, we have had up's and Downs Toss and Turns and some missed Shots. We entered this journey knowing that life would happen, and we will have to learn to navigate it when it happened good, bad, or indifferent. January 2018 Dr's advised me that I needed a kidney and had to start dialysis asap. As a cop, this was going to be different so we in barked on a journey we weren’t prepared for. With a wife as an entrepreneur and full-time student, a child in college and a middle schooler we found ourselves at a moment in life with more questions than answers. There we two options to do Hemodialysis or Peritoneal which is done at home. We opt for Peritoneal so I will have the flexibility to continue to work. Life as we knew it would not be the same mentally and financially. Sacrificing became a norm for everyone in the family. I didn't know what quality of life I would live or even live at all if I didn't get a kidney. Like most fathers, I wanted to see my kids grow as adults and start their own families. I’m truly blessed beyond measure to have a supportive and loving wife who unselfishly is willing to give a part of her.

At a dark point of our marriage, I wasn't prepared to hear my husband needed a kidney. At the time I own my own salon and was attending school full time. Life as I knew it was changing and I felt defeated. Our marriage wasn’t in a good place, I needed to make some very important business decisions and was attending school full time to obtain my Bachelor's. Prior to the news I had just graduated with my Associate degree and was looking to transition into a new career. On July 15, 2018, the Holy Spirit said to me in these exact words "your life is not yours along you are to give Brian your kidney". "I am" "Ok". Then it began. I had to share with Brian that I was going to be his donor and we needed to start planning. He was surprised and excited at the same time. I knew things had to change so while in negotiations to renew my business lease I decide to close the doors after 10yrs as a Salon owner. My drive and Determination needed to be redirected at me finishing school and preparing myself to donate my Kidney to my husband so he could continue to have a quality of life.
Our kidney journey has been ongoing for 8 months and we finally have made it to the finish line by the Grace of God! Your support through prayer and donations are greatly appreciated.
