Why Wake Walks

Donation protected
On February 14th, a high school shooting took place in Parkland, Florida and resulted in the premature deaths of 17 innocent teachers and students. Still, the government has failed to act and to adequately protect our generation. Student walkouts and protests are meant to empower the voices of teenagers. Most of us cannot vote and so our voice is silenced and marked off. Yet, we are the victims of these awful and mindless crimes. Enough is enough.

It is time for us to speak out and take matters into our own hands. We as Wake County students are protesting the violence in solidarity with all of our brothers and sisters across the nation. We are protesting the same violence that occurs at the places where we are supposed to learn and grow. We are protesting the same violence that results in the average of seven children and teens in America being killed with guns every day (https://eveyrtownresearch.org We are protesting the same violence that has not had any laws put in place to address it. We are protesting gun violence.

THE PLAN:

On April 20th, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting, students all over the world are hosting school walk outs. In Wake County we want to do even more. At 4 pm on April 20th we will be gathering in Halifax Square in downtown Raleigh to protest this horrible and unnecessary phenomenon sweeping America. The sake of this rally is to come together and fight for the safety of American students. We will host local student speakers, musicians, etc, all while coming together to fight for a common cause. But to do this we need to pay for the city permits. All funds raised are going directly to paying for these permits. We need the funds by March 20th in order to submit an application for approval to the city. We are just a group of high school kids and are not directly affiliated with any other organization regarding Parkland or any other shootings. Again, all funds will go directly to paying for the permits required to hold our Why Wake Walks demonstration and to things needed for the rally like setting up booths, stages, sound equipment, etc.
