Who's Hungry Restaurant & Catering

We cook... simply, because we LOVE it.

Who’s Hungry Restaurant is a neighborhood Black and Veteran Owned eatery in Los Angeles.  Our mission is to provide a flavorful experience whether you're stopping in to pick up a freshly prepared lunch/dinner or collaborating with our executive chef for a catered event.  We are currently located in the Jefferson Park, Crenshaw neighborhood in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the building we are operating in has been sold to a local real estate developer. That means we have to move and reestablish ourselves in a new location. COVID-19 has already caused a major Financial Impact we have had to lay-off employees. COVID-19 shutdowns have pounded Black-owned businesses particularly hard. Research at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a report by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that 41 percent of Black-owned businesses—some 440,000 enterprises—have been shuttered by COVID-19, compared to just 17 percent of white-owned businesses. Our Who’s Hungry team has become quite creative in order to keep our neighborhood restaurant open. Please know we have applied for various grant and loan programs, but we have not been selected to receive any funds at this point.

At this point we are reaching out to our community for assistance. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have an opportunity to move to a new location in the West Adams/ Crenshaw neighborhood. This is a location that we can’t pass up. WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH OUR MOVE-IN DEPOSIT AND OPERATING COST TO HIRE EMPLOYEES. There is a full operating kitchen and fully furnished outdoor dining space. Which is key for a restaurant to survive during COVID-19. This dedicated outdoor dining area will allow us to provide a beautiful space for our community to dine and participate in future events. Who’s Hungry is a small business that operates with a limited budget, but we have been able to create something special in our community. Our team has worked really hard in the last year to provide healthy, flavorful food that caters to plant-based eaters and meat eaters. We want the chance to continue to provide jobs for our current and new employees.

Meet Chef Stuart?

Chef Stuart opened a quick service Caribbean inspired restaurant a year and half ago, Who's Hungry! He currently operates the restaurant with me (His Wife), Christiane. We are a strong black couple determined to expand our business in the community we grew up and currently live.  Stuart is a Marine Corp veteran that always dreamed of owning his own business where he could offer the tastes and smells of the Caribbean to consumers. His business originated as a small full-service catering company eight years ago and for a year and a half. Stuart and I have been able to serve the community healthy and affordable comfort food. The Jefferson Park/ West Adams district has been labeled a food dessert for many years, our goal for our community is to change that reality. Who's Hungry’s menu was designed to provide healthy food options packed with traditional Caribbean flavors. Chef Stuart wants to give his customers a clean eating experience with traditional comfort foods. Chef Stuart wants to sustain high quality products in order to keep our menu filled with healthy items and consistency. Who's Hungry connects with our local farmer's market (Crenshaw Farmers' Market, SEE-LA) to purchase locally sourced ingredients for menu items.

We are humbled to say that we need your help. I know this is a hard time for everyone. Anything helps - including sharing this campaign whether or not you can contribute.
