Whitney's Cancer Treatment

For those of you who haven't heard, Whitney was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer on July 20th.

Her original surgery was going to be a simple and short two hour procedure on August 1st, but it has been postponed after further tests revealed the cancer is more aggressive than originally anticipated. Within two weeks of being diagnosed the cancer spread into her lymph nodes and trachea near her vocal chords.

After numerous follow up appointments and labs, the doctors have determined that as of right now her thyroid, several lymph nodes, and a part of her trachea will be removed. Two additional specialists will be needed during this six hour surgery on August 24th. One of which will monitor her trachea to ensure her vocal chords aren’t damaged. If the surgery goes well she will start the radioactive iodine treatment in September to prevent the cancer from returning.

She has been strong and retained her bubbly personality through the whole process, but the financial burden of surgery has been weighing on her. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated!
