Whitey’s Surf Camp

Donation protected
For 22 years, Brian "Whitie" Allen has run a Surf Camp at Paddy's Beach in Westerly on Saturdays mornings, free of charge.    He feels it’s important to teach the next generation of surfers about riptides, currents, how to respect the ocean and know what to do in an emergency.   He mostly enjoys seeing the joy on a student's face as they catch their first wave!

The evening before this season’s surf camp, 10 boards earmarked for campers were stolen.   Whitie posted the news on Facebook and was blown away by the number of people who reacted by spreading the word and offering to help, leading to the creation of this GoFundMe campaign.   Word even spread to WJAR and they aired the story:

36 kids showed up for the first day of camp and generously shared their boards with the ones borrowed or donated on short notice.

Donations from this campaign will be used to purchase surfboards for the camp.  Having a fleet of boards allows kids to be exposed to the joy of surfing without having to invest.  It allows us to get the most out of the lesson time and surf together.

Thank you for your support.  Surf on my friends!
