Whiteside Family Fund

I believe that true Grace comes in two forms: that which a higher power grants to those in need, and that which humanity gives to one another. This Christmas season I am asking you to be a powerful act of humanity for a family in desperate need of both, no matter the distance, no matter the amount.

On December 4, 2017, little William Whiteside caught the same virus that had been plaguing the rest of his family. A mere cold for his parents and sister (who already proved to be a true superhero when she endured open heart surgery as a baby), the virus became a medical emergency for Will. Brought by ambulance to the hospital, he was quickly airlifted to a larger hospital with PICU abilities. He is currently on a ventilator and will be so for at least a week.

His Dad, John, a truck driver, asked for people to pray for his son.

I’m going to go a bit further and ask for more.

While health insurance covers some expenses, it never covers all. But more critically, as a parent, I know that the one place I’d want to be is by my child’s side if he or she was in the hospital, let alone the PICU. And while we parents will sacrifice everything to stay beside our children, it often comes at a financial cost that takes a tremendous toll – both in the mounting bills and the inability to buy simple things like gas. Even worse, the sheer stress of being torn in two directions can be all-consuming. Our heart is on the line, but so is the capacity to keep food on the table and oil in the boiler.

This holiday season, I am asking you to be the person who says to a stranger, “Let me help you.” I’m asking you to be the person that buys the coffee for the dude behind you in line, and who helps lift the groceries into the old lady’s car. I’m asking you to be the person that prays and the person that puts the needs of others before yourself.

I’m asking you to say to the Whiteside family, “We’ve got your back.”

Give what you can and know that two, terrified parents can be with their son as he fights to get healthy. Give so that the Whietside family doesn't have to worry about the bills and can keep the lights on.

‘Tis the season to show your Grace to little William.

'Tis the season to let your humanity shine.

God Bless.
