Help With Deb's Medical Bills

Donation protected

We are reaching out to our friends, family and acquaintances. We are walking through an extremely tough time in our lives, and despite our best efforts to see our way through, it is apparent that we NEED HELP. So, we are asking for help with my wife, Deborah's, medical bills, both past and present. Any little bit helps!

My wife was diagnosed with tubular sclerosis in 2010. It is a disorder that causes non-malignant tumors to grow in the brain and other organs. For my wife, the tumors have caused epileptic seizures.

In 2010, my wife had her first complex partial seizure. It was like a stroke because she lost all use of the right side of her body. She had gotten to the point that she was using a cane and tried to return to work, but she suffered two more complex partial seizures in 2011. She is currently unable to speak or walk. The inability to speak or walk were diagnosed as conversion disorder because of the trauma of the onset seizure disorder. I think she might have pushed herself too soon because of our finances. Tuberous Sclerosis is treatable, but not curable.

Right now, our only income is my wife's disability. and I'm her full-time caregiver.  We filed bankruptcy in January and we lost our house. My wife was working on her PhD but withdrew in June because of her health and our finances. Everything has caused her tremendous anxiety and depression, and I can only do so much to help.

Even though my wife has medicaid, it doesn't really cover the care that my wife needs, and it doesn't help with outstanding medical bills. She needs what's called cognitive behavioral counseling that specializes with conversion disorders.

Medicaid will only cover the community health centers that haven't been able to help my wife. She needs to have more intense therapy, but we can't afford it. This therapy combined with speech and physical therapy would help so much to getting her back where she used to be.

The good news is that she is starting to talk again. It's a very slow process, but I'm excited to finally hear a little of her voice after more than a year of silence.

Any assistance will help. My wife is so intelligent. I hate seeing her physical situation limit her potential to use her brilliant mind. Thank you for anything you can give!

I'm making necklaces right now, so I'd be happy to send anyone who donates at least $5 one of my necklaces to say thanks. After you've made a donation, if you'd like a necklace, check out some of the ones I've made at our facebook page and then click contact me on this page to tell me which one you want and where to send it.
