When a dream becomes a nightmare

When a dream becomes a nightmare...

Brad and Sarah Jacobs started on a journey in June 2017 that they believed was a dream-come-true. Both professionals in the healthcare field, Sarah secured a position at a hospital in Kissimmee, FL and received a signing bonus that included a moving package. Things seemed to fall into place quickly for a smooth move, so they packed up their family of three children and one little surprise bundle discovered after the position was accepted, and moved in hopes of living their best life in a place they love.

Since arriving they have battled against a relentless series of issues.

Brad struggled for months to find gainful employment creating a financial burden from which they have not been able to recover despite his now being employed.

The most serious obstacle, however, was a very traumatic pregnancy and the ensuing postpartum issues that continue. Sarah’s pregnancy with their fourth child, Delilah Rose, born November 21, 2017 was high risk and rife with difficulties, hospitalizations and pain. She suffered hyperemesis gravidarum, gestational diabetes and was monitored closely due to her history of preeclampsia.

Towards the end of her pregnancy, she was given home treatment with a subcutaneous Zofran pump, but eventually required hospitalization due to malnutrition and dehydration.

Throughout her pregnancy she battled a pre-existing condition which causes constant pain and requires the treatment of a pain management doctor. Working with an entirely new team of doctors, she has not been able to receive the care she was expecting and depending on to be able to live a good quality life and work.

In the final weeks of her pregnancy, she went to work in excruciating pain, dehydrated, nauseous and under unbearable stress. She returned home to collapse into bed leaving Brad to worry and care for her and their three young children.

The stress and pain have taken the most unexpected toll on Sarah, both physically and emotionally. She was diagnosed with postpartum depression, and is experiencing complications which continues to make recovery very difficult.

Unable to return to work, and having no paid maternity leave built up in such a short time, their financial situation, along with her health, has gone from difficult to dire.

After consulting with her doctors and seeking counsel on how to proceed, the best option for a full recovery at this point is to return to the Midwest. Her body can take no more and her emotional state at this juncture is tenuous at best. The well-being of their entire family is affected by Sarah’s health and state-of-mind.

They never had the opportunity to build a support system within the community or find a supportive church before all the issues arose. It is imperative to get them back home to a large supportive family and church community where she can be restored to health, and eventually return to work.

Help us bring them home! Although they are still awaiting news on whether arrangements can be made for the debt that will be owed on her contract and the remainder of the lease, they have taken a leap of faith and decided to do what has to be done to best care for Sarah and the family. They are packing once again, and with the help of Brad’s brother, Alex, they will be making the long trip back to Illinois in just 10 days.

Funds at this point will simply help cover the cost of the moving truck, gas for the trip, food for them as they travel and tolls. Any funds received beyond that amount will be used to help set up their immediate needs once they arrive here; grocery and staples, initial set up costs back in their home in Belleville and one month’s mortgage if they are not able to obtain a month deferment.

So many of you have asked how you can help, and we appreciate your prayers and concern for them! This is it, this is one way we can all help them. There will be other minor needs when they return and those things will be posted on the Facebook page. Won’t you join us? Let’s bring them back home! #BringtheJacobshome
