Whelping Pen Eagle Scout Project

Welcome to my GoFundMe campaign to help build whelping pens for Love Mutts Rescue. Love Mutts Rescue is located in the Wake Forest area of North Carolina. Their mission is to find forever homes for animals who have been abandoned, mistreated, or end up in shelters that euthanize animals.
Often times the rescued dogs are pregnant. Love Mutts needs whelping pens for the mothers to properly and safely care for their new born puppies. Visit Love Mutts Rescue for more information about Love Mutts Rescue.
My name is Alfonso Bardes, I am an active member of Troop 517 in Wake Forest, North Carolina. The Troop is sponsored by American Legion Post 187, also of Wake Forest, NC. I chose to help Love Mutts Rescue as my Eagle Scout project. All Boy Scouts who want to obtain the honest rank and honor in Scouting are required to do a community service project. Currently I’m in 11th grade at Franklin Academy High School. I work weekends at Fisher Veterinary Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. My goal is to attend veterinary school and to become a veterinarian.
Why this project is important to me and the dogs: I love animals and I love my community. The folks at Love Mutts Rescue share this same passion.
What is this project: I plan to raise enough money to build three (3) whelping pens for Love Mutts Rescue. The pen frames will be constructed of steel or aluminum. The plans call for pig rails and padding for protection of the mother and pups. The materials are expensive and will require welding. We chose to use these materials for durability and cleanliness. Also since puppies love to chew, we are going to make these pens to last forever. The material can be easily sanitized as well.
The Costs: Ideally we would like to use aluminum because it is lightweight but it is costly. A professional welder has agreed to donate his time and the use of his equipment to complete the project. I will organize other scouts as volunteers to complete this project. This project will require $1,600 to complete and I require your help. (The goal reflects fees charged by GoFundMe for their service.)
