Wheels For Superman!

Leading up to the first year anniversary of the horrific events of February 27, 2013, our local NBC station in Washington, DC ran a great interview about Peter's road to recovery.  With Susie by his side, they shared the ups and downs of his miraculous recovery and provided insight into the reality of the challenges ahead.  I am always heartened at how they are never complaining about their situation and always so grateful for all the love and support they have received throughout this journey.

Soon after the interview, I received an email from a co-worker, who coincidentally is a City of Alexandria resident and local business owner.  Like most who have been touched by Peter's incredible story over the past year, she wanted to help, even though she has never met him.  She was particularly interested by his wanting to just make a quick trip to Home Depot (2:00 mark of the interview) and not being able to.  She offered to open an Uber account for him so he can just go to Home Depot or wherever he pleases without having to ask a friend or his colleagues from the City of Alexandria Police Dept.  If you are not familiar with Uber, it is essentially a personal car/taxi service.  He will be able to request, ride and pay from his phone.

So that is the genesis of this fundraiser.  Laura's idea was great but I thought it would be even greater if it were extended to his friends or acquaintances who are also looking for ways to help.  With all due respect to the standing offer by his friends and colleagues, I am sure Peter will appreciate spontaneously 'making a Home Depot run'.
