Wheels for Ty!

Wheels for Ty!

Help fund a wheelchair accessible vehicle for Tyzaak so he can enjoy life and be part of the broader community.

Hi, my name is Tyzaak and I’m 6 years old.
My Mum, Sarah, and I are seeking donations towards a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
I have severe Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy and many other complex needs, which will only increase as I grow. My condition is incurable and degenerative.
I live with my single Mum, and my sister, Tahleshia, who is 7 years old.
People say I laugh a lot and that I always try hard. I like to laugh and play especially with my sister and cousins.
I’m growing – fast. That’s tough on Mum, especially her back as she has to lift and carry me all the time – in and out of bed, the shower and the car. The wheelchair I have now was meant to last another two years but I already need a new one. It only just fits Mum’s car and is too heavy (nearly 30 kg) for Mum to keep lifting into and out of the car. We don’t go out much as a family because of that.
My new wheelchair will be bigger and weigh even more. What Mum, Tahleshia and I would love is a vehicle which has been modified to take a wheelchair and has seating for my sister (and maybe a cousin!!).
My Mum’s ability to work is limited to the hours when I am at school as I need 24 hour, 7 days a week care. She has been able to do some babysitting work for a friend on an ‘in kind’ basis. Mum has to take me for regularly visits Princess Margaret’s Children’s Hospital for check-ups and treatments. I also need to be able to get to the Emergency Department of the local hospital when I’m ill, as normal childhood illnesses could be serious for me.
A wheelchair accessible vehicle would be great for all my family. It would put less pressure on Mum when we go out and we would be able to go out more often. Mum wouldn’t feel so isolated and alone. We could go out more quickly and easily which would allow Mum time to take Tahleshia to afterschool activities such as gymnastics which she would love to do. This would increase her confidence and social skills which she is struggling with due to lack of opportunity to go places. Finally, it would allow other members of my broader family to babysit me for longer periods as Mum would be able to load the other equipment I need for a longer stay, such as the shower chair, special bed inserts, walking frame and a hoist (I’ll need one soon the way I keep growing). We might even be able to go on a family holiday!
A new, wheelchair accessible, vehicle will allow us to go out like other families and I can see and do things, and play – and laugh lots! And Mum and Tahleshia can say:
Let’s go Ty!

Any donation you are able to make would be greatly appreciated by Mum, Tahleshia and me!
