§ FND causes problems with the functioning of the nervous system where the brain can’t send or receive signals properly. After seizures Nikki needs to retrain her brain to get the correct signals through – whether this is to walk, talk, improve coordination etc. This can feel like breaking through a brick wall and can take weeks each time.
§ FND is common. In fact it is the second most common reason for a neurological outpatient visit after headache/migraine, though unfortunately it is very under-researched and misunderstood both in the medical field and community. Neurologists are working hard to gather more information and educate others.
§ FND symptoms are very diverse, with most people having a multiple symptoms, which can include; chronic pain, memory issues, gait and balance problems, headaches and migranes, fatigue, involuntary movements, paralysis and weakness, seizures, sensory changes, sleep disturbances, speech problems and vision changes. Nikki has mainly experienced dizziness, headaches, fatigue, involuntary movements, seizures and speech problems.
§ FND can be a roller coaster between improvements and relapses.
§ Medical professionals can’t make any guarantees on how much an individual may improve, how long it may take or whether there will be relapses or not. A positive attitude, healthy lifestyle and a balanced approach between rest and action are all advantageous to a more positive prognosis.

The Moneys raised from all you generous souls will go towards a motorized wheelchair to aid Nikki in getting her to places that she may otherwise normally achieve by herself. The remainder of the funds will then go towards bathroom alterations, driveways and pathways for Nikki to access in and around her home.
