Independence, freedom and Pursuit of Happiness.... in the form of a lightweight foldable electric wheelchair.
Kristen is my 22 year old baby girl.
She wants to live free and go where everyone else can go. She might need a helping hand, here or there but she is mighty grateful to be able to be able to come along!
Thus the reason for the foldable chair.
(Because how many of us have wheelchair accessible vans? I can't afford one:( and she's my love.)
Kristen attends Southwest Minnesota State University. She is involved in many clubs and performs in plays while attending school. The school it's self is very accommodating for someone who uses a wheelchair. It's the outside world that's a bit trickier.
Traveling to Chicago, New Orleans and Texas have been a few of her out reach places. They have posed many interesting challenges with her wheelchairs. Thankfully she has had some pretty amazing friends to help her through these struggles.
Q. " How to get home when para transit closes at 7 and I don't own a wheelchair accessible van?" - great for a teenagers' curfew but as an adult this sucks!" You better get on that bus in time!
This tough cookie just needs a break,
She arrived in the world a bit to early but she fought to survive and now is a strong independent woman who has a strong desire to advocate for those whose voices aren't being heard.
Kristen was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy 10 months old. Cerebral palsy (CP) is defined as a nonprogressive disorder of posture, tone, and/or movement that results from a static insult to the developing brain.
(Or just really tight muscles that the brain won't let relax.)
Thankfully she survived and is now here stronger than ever!
