Wheelchair for Skyler

Skyler is a vibrant 16 year old young lady, that 4 weeks ago had her entire world changed in the matter of a few hours... Skyler started her day like any other 16 year old on her way to school, with a fall that was thought to be a simple sprained ankle with some back pain. Within hours, Skyler had lost all feeling and mobility from her waist down, and found herself in an ambulance with no idea what the future held. After many tests, Skyler was diagnosed with a rare spinal condition called Transverse Myelitis, only about 1,400 people nationwide are diagnosed with this condition yearly. Skyler is one of the strongest people I know, and has undergone treatment that most adults could not even imagine, all the while with a smile on her face, strength and humor in her day. After 7 sessions of Plasma Exchange therapy – there is a light at the end of the tunnel, as Skyler has showed some improvement with movement in her legs and most recently some movement in her toes. What an exciting day that was for us as her family to get the call that she moved her leg. You don’t realize how the simple fact of moving your leg or a toe is nothing to us daily, until you cant anymore -   it was like winning the lotto to get that call that she moved her leg. Skyler has a long road ahead of her to recover, with very intense therapy, just to be able to do the things we take for granite like tying your shoes, and putting pants on, or just getting around throughout the day. Skyler is in an inpatient acute Rehab. Facility currently, learning things like these, as well as how to be able to get herself into and out of a wheelchair. Which brings to me to why I have started this Go fund me. Skyler will be in a wheelchair for up to a year while she goes through intense therapy to learn to walk again, and Skyler needs to have a wheelchair that is not just a commercial wheelchair, she needs a wheelchair that is fit for her so that she can be comfortable and able to be mobile while she is recovering. We are asking for help to get her a wheelchair and any lifting devices and items she will need so that she will have that mobility to keep that smile on her face and the strong positive attitude that we have seen in her over the last 4 weeks
