Wheelchair for Charlotte the Pig

Donation protected
We are asking for help to buy Charlotte the Pig a wheelchair and get her a vet checkup with x-rays of her hind legs and spine.  We are hoping to do this for her right away.

On 12/1/2020  my friend posted about her two beloved potbelly pigs needing to be re-homed urgently.  My friend operates a reptile & exotic animal rescue and a few years ago had taken in two potbelly pigs, one of them being Charlotte.  On 12/1 the county found out. Since they were not zoned for farm animals the county told them they had to leave within 3 days or they would be removed and possibly euthanized.  I immediately wrote her and said we could take both of them.

Charlotte and Prudence both are house pets, smaller than some large dogs.  They are house trained, spayed, sleep in dog beds, and are microchipped.  They love riding in cars. They wag their tails and come when they are called.  We believe they shouldn't be categorized as farm animals, and my friend plans to petition the county to change the law for potbelly pigs.

Charlotte is half potbelly pig, half wild pig - her mother liked to escape and play with the wild boys near her home. Charlotte was attacked by her mother at only 2 weeks old, causing her to lose her right eye and have trauma to her head.  She was rehabilitated by a rescue and then adopted by my friend.

My friend and her family adore Charlotte.  They taught her to walk on a leash and registered her as a therapy animal.  She went to group homes to visit with kids and educate them along with the other snakes and reptiles they brought.  We hope to be able to continue this educational service with Charlotte once we are out of the COVID pandemic.

Charlotte and Prudence arrived here on 12/5 and now have a 3 acre horse property to call their forever home. She and Prudence sleep in the house, however now they get to spend their days exploring a huge, grassy yard.  Charlotte has a lot more space to roam compared to where she was living,  and she hasn't stopped moving since she got here. As a result, her hind legs are sore and she is now dragging her hind left leg.  Charlotte has a hard time walking, and it is likely a neurological issue caused by her mother attacking her.  However, because of the residential area in which she had been living, there was no vet nearby that would see or treat pigs over 40 lbs.  So Charlotte has not seen a vet since she was spayed and grown into and adult.  Now that she's heavier, and with the added space to roam around, it has become clear she needs a thorough vet examination and assistance with walking.

At two years old Charlotte has so much life left to live.  We want her to have a long, happy life here being a pig, doing what pigs do.  My family and I hadn't planned on taking in two potbelly pigs last week, let alone saved up the money for a wheelchair.  We  don't want Charlotte to have to wait to enjoy her new home, watching Prudence happily grunting and rooting around the property while she lies there and watches.  We also don't want Charlotte to have to push through the pain of dragging her hind leg and struggling to get around.  This wheelchair will be something she needs for the rest of her life, and it would change her whole world to be able to move more freely.

Please click on the link below to see how one of these wheelchairs helped another pig like her.  We are also providing the link to the company who makes these wheelchairs.

Charlotte and I would be SO grateful for any help. If only 375 people contributed $2.00, we would have the money to buy her a wheelchair right away, plus get her a full check up at the vet with x-rays of her hind legs and spine.  If you aren't able to donate at this time, please share with your friends and family.   Thank you!
