Wheelchair Bodybuilding Competition

My name is James Poirier and I am close to the date of a historical event. I am with great certainty that no one with FA (Friedreich’s Ataxia)* has accomplished such a feat. Maybe even those with another form of MD (Muscular Dystrophy)* If you the reader is unaware, FA* is a progressive neuromuscular disorder (click here more info ----->HERE )

On October 26th I will be competing in Calgary as an Amateur Wheelchair Bodybuilder with the WNBF (World Naturals Bodybuilding Federation) of Canada. Natural as in no “juicing” lol. They do a urine test as well as a polygraph test.

I have been going to the gym at UPEI (University) for 12+ years, but missed almost 2 yrs because of “C0_id” (hope you all get that). I’ve been going back regularly and for the past 7 weeks I upped the game, from my 2-1/2 hour sessions to 4-1/2, and last week changed 2 to 3 days a week. My friend and Trainer Lahiru had mentioned it years ago and said no, but this year I said, yes let’s do it. He has been to other competitions in the past and is attending one in November, so he knows what I need to do to get me there!

I haven’t had it easy growing up, that’s for sure! My disability was the cause of many falls, much blood!, heartaches, severe frustrations even to this day, being hit by a car involving multiple surgeries to name a few, which has and will not bring me down. I’m not defined by the crap that has happened to me or this $hitty disability, I’m a child of God with a purpose, and alive to this day because of him! Failure to me just means less capable, so I move on to the next thing. You only get one life! So make the best of it right?

This event is going to cost a bit $. The MD Association of Canada hopefully will cover the expenses of a care worker. I have a couple places to ask for a sponsorship as well, but I hope this fundraiser will help offset some of my costs.
