Wheelchair & Expenses

For everyone who knows my dad, they know two things- he loves helping anyone he can and he loves going fast. Lately, both of these have pretty much been taken from him. Earlier this year, following a motor vehicle accident he was noticing some issues with his ability to walk, we all thought this was stemming from spinal damage. However, after numerous tests, doctors visits, and second opinions, he was told that he has ALS.
For those of you that do no know what ALS is, you may know it as Lou Gehrig's Disease. This is a form of motor neuron disease that causes the muscles to atrophy. In simpler terms, slowly the disease takes over your body reducing your ability to perform a variety of tasks on your own. It is truly devastating.
I share this story because in June he was let go from his job and he was the sole worker in the family. No benefits have currently kicked in (disability, social security, etc) and they could take up to six months. While it is hard to ask for help, I know that I personally can not provide everything that he needs and I do not want him stressed about it either.
Currently, the biggest stress is that he needs a wheelchair more equipped for his condition. While ALS started in his legs it has moved to his arms as well. I am hoping that we can all come together to help get him a wheelchair that gives him the ability to be more comfortable and independent during these already emotionally trying times as well as provide some cushion for other expenses that are popping up.
I will forever be grateful for any blessings and prayers that will be sent his way.
