I had to end my career 4 years ago due to my disease progression making any changes to my home extremely difficult to do with my only source of income being SSDI (Social Security Disability Income).
As you can see, the room is a bit narrow making it impossible to turn around in a wheelchair. I end up transferring to the toilet in order to transfer to the shower chair and as you can see, I have to sit backwards in the shower in order to bath myself. It's a bit awkward, but works for what it is. I also am unable to properly use the sink from my wheelchair and end up using a cup to help me when brushing my teeth in order to spit without making a mess of things.
I am wanting to remove the wall between the closet and the bathroom opening up the room making it at least 4 feet wider so a wheelchair can easily turn around in. I want to put the closet opening in the bathroom itself and close off the door from the bedroom into the closet. I also want the bathtub removed and a zero entry shower installed, a wall mounted sink for proper wheelchair access, a chair height toilet, lots of grab bars and a wheelchair accessible vanity.
Multiple Sclerosis has not kept be down emotionally. My mobility may be limited, but I do all I can each day to encourage others with MS to not give up. I run a website called Positive Living with MS where I blog several times a week and post to social media daily. Most of the things I share online are my humorous takes on living with MS and just on life in general. What I do online doesn't earn me any money but does bring smiles to thousands around the world and that's all that matters to me. If one person is helped by my positivity then I smile bigger myself.
Any amount you can contribute would make a huge difference and be greatly appreciated. If I am able to reach my goal and go over the amount requested, I will use the money to have a permanent wheelchair ramp installed at the front and back door to my home. I thank you in advance for you help.
