Ellie Moon’s debut documentary play about sexual consent, 'Asking For It', resonated deeply with its Toronto audience, opening the day that #MeToo broke out globally. The production received widespread critical acclaim.

Ellie's sophomore play, 'What I call her,' has been programmed as part of the 2018/19 season at Crow’s Theatre, one of Toronto’s leading arts organizations. WHAT I CALL HER, November 16-December 8, 2018

Trauma, truth, freedom and the internet age.

The estranged mother of 25-year old Kate is on her death bed. A Facebook post becomes the subject of heated debate. Then, a knock on the door. What I call her is a play about gaps in how people perceive and understand the world they live in, female generational rage, and the loneliness of holding onto one’s own truth.

'Asking For It' played to sold-out houses in October 2017, generating widespread critical acclaim, powerful audience responses, and vital conversations. The funding received from individual donors was directly responsible for the success of 'Asking For It.'

We respectfully request support to stage 'What I call her' in November 2018, a play we believe to be just as vital, timely, and worthy of
funding. When you support In Association, you are supporting a female team of producers partnering with Crow's Theatre, and a cast of emerging talent. You are empowering women’s voices and nurturing stories that relish complexity, and offer no easy answers.

"A bracing pleasure... A sly, intelligent piece of documentary theatre borne of Ghomeshi-gate." - Simon Houpt, The Globe & Mail, on 'Asking For It'

"In 'What I call her,' Ellie cements my already firmly held belief in her astounding talent and my awe at the preternatural maturity she shows as such a young playwright. Ellie exhibits an uncanny ability to expose and inhabit a problem or dynamic without solving or answering questions, leaving the audience in mess and tension—threading big, fascinating, painful ideas, that vibrate up to the second with contemporary resonance, masterfully through action and dialogue with immense intelligence, wit and rigour.” - Chris Abraham, Artistic Director of Crow's Theatre
