What the Woolf Wore or (WOOLF etc.) is a new play written by Abraham Johnson and directed by Jessica Browder.
What the Woolf Wore or (WOOLF etc.) has been awarded a slot in the 2019 Stripped Bare Arts Incubator Project presented by Synchronicity Theatre! The Stripped Bare series is an arts incubator project for new play development and emerging artists in Atlanta, Georgia. Along with being awarded a slot in the 2019 series What the Woolf Wore or (WOOLF etc.) has also been given a small grant to help mount the production - but in order to create the best art possible we need YOUR help.
We are trying to raise $500 to cover the additional costs of production like costumes, props, and most importantly - stipends for each actresses! Each actress is fully commited to this script and their craft and we need to pay each of them $150 stipend for their countless hours of work!

Synopsis: WOOLF opens on 4 actors who are trying to produce A Very Important Play From the Theater Canon (that can fit inside a budget-friendly living room set). After disagreements over character believability and nuance of their Dark Secrets (inevitably revealed in ACT 3), one of the actors decides to quit theater, leaving the production. As the other actors eventually draw her back in, they decide to try and produce a Wildly Producible Modern Adaptation of a Play from The Theater Canon That Can Still Fit In A Living Room. After pursuing a queer adaptation of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” the play splinters again, forcing the actors to rewrite their story and explode the concept of the Living Room Play. WOOLF wrestles with why we make theatre when it hurts so much, how we interact with classic plays, and how to take the audience from consumer to the consumed.
About the playwright:
Abraham Johnson writes Big Messy Queer Plays that center around audience experience. Abe has developed work with the New Georgia Group, the Horizon Theater, Process Theater, Out of Box Theater, Essential Theater, Synchronicity Theater, Langhorne Players, the Classic City Fringe Festival, and the Lionheart Theater Company. The Lambda Literary Foundation has recognized them as a two-time Playwriting Fellow at the 2017 and 2018 Emerging LGBTQ Voices Retreats, which included publication in the annual "EMERGE" anthologies. Abe has also recieved residency with the Sundress Academy for The Arts, and was a two-time finalist for the Greenhouse Residency at SPACE on Ryder Farms. Abe uses any pronouns, feels most powerful when wearing overalls, and recently completed a literary internship at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center during the 2019 Summer Season.
