FIGHT FOR SIGHT

Lorenzo Joseph Ruggiero was born 2 months ago on May 31, 2018 at Huntington Hospital in Long Island with a rare defect in his left eye.  He was immediately taken from Taylor & Chris and was transferred to Cohen’s Children’s Hospital as Huntington was not able to identify what happened.  After being away from their child for 14 hours not knowing was going on he was then brought back to them recommending he see a top eye specialist.  This was truly a devastating time for the entire family. 

After weeks of worrying & waiting Lorenzo’s parents were lucky enough to meet with a top specialist in Westchester, NY who was highly recommended by multiple doctors.  After numerous tests and procedures it was determined that he would have a cornea transplant along with cataract surgery on Thursday Aug 16th along with numerous follow up visits (3x/week for the few weeks) and other minor procedures thereafter. It was determined that his iris & pupil did not fully develop in the womb and scar tissue developed in order to protect his eye. 

We are praying and hoping this surgery will be a success but there are no guarantees.  We have a tight family bond and our strength comes from love & prayers.   Lorenzo is a strong, happy, sweet, young soul full of such innocence and with this abundance of strength from everyone we are sending out positive energy his way.  With our trust in God’s hands we all continue to hope for a successful transplant and a bright future for Lorenzo.

Any donation at this time would be greatly appreciated as the surgery bills and aftercare for him are significant for any brand new couple with a baby to handle.  We are doing all we possibly can to take some financial stress off of them as the stress & worry alone about his condition and outcome are great enough.

The Ruggiero & Pellicane families are very thankful for the constant love, support and prayers that have surrounded them. Lorenzo is so lucky to be so very loved by each and every one of you. While we understand not everyone can donate we ask for positive thoughts and prayers as we all feel that ‘will’ make a difference.
