WeWiN Empowering Women Holiday Drive

Women Empowering Women in Nature (WeWiN) a conscious community of Austin, TX based women, voted to support woman-led refugee families in the Austin area with our first holiday community outreach drive. iACT nominated two women to be sponsored, who will greatly benefit from our fundraising.
One woman is named Eh Na, and she is a refugee from Myanmar. After surviving violence and forcible displacement from her country with her family and young children, she was resettled in Austin, TX. Shortly after arriving, her husband passed away leaving her to support her young family in a new country, with limited education, and without knowing our language. She has maintained steady employment at a chicken processing plant where she works night shift. Eh Na has requested the we help her purchase driving lessons, and aspires to return to ESL classes, be more active in her children's lives, and continue to improve their living situation.
iACT also nominated Sanaa, a refugee from Bashra, Iraq. Sanaa fled Iraq after the Gulf War with her husband and young children. After settling in Jordan, her husband left her to raise her children on her own. She was eventually granted refugee status and was resettled in Austin, TX with her now young adult children. The children are working and studying and doing their best to help support their Mom. Sanaa has been a dedicated ESL student, has passed the Math and Social Studies portion of the GED, and after completing her GED plans to pursue university coursework and hopes to be an immigration lawyer to help others navigate the system of coming to this country. When she isn't studying, she's helping other refugee students and people in the community that need a helping hand. We are fundraising to purchase a laptop to help Sanaa to continue her studies.
100% of the proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit these two incredible women who exemplify resiliency, hope and empowerment in the Austin community.
