Weston's Heart

Hello, my name is McKenna and I am the best friend/sister to Amanda Saltus (Mandy). About a week ago, Mandy gave birth  to her first son, Weston. Shortly after he was born, he was rushed to the NICU as his medical team experienced difficulty stabilizing him. He and his father Josh were life flighted to a prominent children’s hospital after Weston was diagnosed with a fatal heart defect. This condition is characterized by the transposition of the two great vessels that come off the top of the heart. This causes oxygenated blood to be pumped back into the lungs, leaving the rest of the body depleted of oxygen-rich blood. This condition is deadly, as without surgery, the patient will only live for about a month. Weston made it through this surgery, but soon developed an arrhythmia. Weston experienced heart rates of 200+ beats per minute and had a pacemaker placed to regulate his heart rate. He is on his way to recovery, but he is by no means out of the woods. He is at risk for further complications and delayed healing. In the meantime we are praying he will make it through this incredibly difficult part of his new life. We are also praying his parents will remain strong for Weston. In addition to our prayers, we are requesting the financial assistance of anyone who is willing and able, as Mandy and Josh are not working at the moment, and will not be working for an extended period of time as Weston recovers.
