Dear EVT Alumni,
We hope this finds you well. As you may know, this year marks the 20th Anniversary of the Experimental Vehicle Team at Saint Thomas Academy. Over the last two decades, more than 200 students have worked tirelessly designing, building, and ultimately racing their experimental vehicles. EVT has won competitions around the world and has truly become a premiere high school engineering program.
Without a doubt, those 20 years would not have been possible without the dedication, vision, and commitment of Mark Westlake. Mark has constantly pushed us young engineers to excel, but not without some valuable lessons along the way. He maintains that his goal for the program is for students to fail, and to fail miserably, but to fail understanding the problems they encounter and learning how to fix them. He teaches not only how to take an idea to paper but how to build it, and he consistently reminds his students that the best answers are not always at the back of a textbook.
Over the years, Mark has kidded with his students that one day they will return to the Academy with a Porsche Caymen waiting for him in the parking lot. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of EVT and all of Mark’s dedication, wisdom, and commitment, we would like to SURPRISE him with a gift on behalf of all EVT alumni that will at least give him a taste of his dream. This gift includes an all-expense paid trip to the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia. For one weekend this year, Mark will get to drive Porsche Performance Vehicles of his choosing around a professional racing track at this center.
