The West Michigan AmeriCorps Collaborative (WMAC) is a group of dedicated individuals aiming to support AmeriCorps members and alumni serving in West Michigan. AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives, fighting poverty and fostering civic engagement (think domestic Peace Corps!). Members spend a year of their life addressing critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, fighting poverty, promoting health, preparing for disasters, and more. Most AmeriCorps members serving in West Michigan find that they are living at or near the poverty level during their service term. While this gives them a better understanding of the challenges the people they are serving experience, this brings about their own struggles to live affordably. WMAC is collecting money to address these struggles, to thank Americorps members and to allow more opportunities for them. Americorps is a 25 year old legacy. WMAC would like to ensure this legacy can continue by fundraising for members on an ongoing basis. We would be so grateful to know the community also supports this service!
