West Latham Neighborhood Legal Fund

Over the past few years the West Latham Neighborhood Association (WLNA) has worked to ensure fair zoning and reasonable development in our area, specifically for 33/45 Forts Ferry Road, Latham. As residents, we have spoken at Town of Colonie Planning Board and Town Board meetings and communicated through letters, emails, phone calls as well as articles in newspapers and newsletters. We have met with Supervisor Mahan and other Colonie administrators to discuss these issues. We have made every effort to reach out to the developer proposing to build on this land to work together on options to develop this property.  Despite all these efforts, the latest proposals are 2-3 story buildings with 15,000-30,000 square feet footprints and completely out of character with our single-family residential neighborhood that surrounds this now wooded land. The WLNA has decided that the only path we now have is to push back on the overdevelopment of our neighborhood  and to retain legal counsel and our own traffic and environmental engineering. The initial cost of these efforts is estimated at over $6,000.

We have an opportunity as residents of the Town of Colonie to make our voices heard and to make it clear that the overdevelopment of our community has to stop!

We are very grateful for our neighbors, SAVE Colonie and everyone that has been actively working to maintain the quality of life in the Town of Colonie as a place where we all want to live and work.

Our understanding is that the developer’s proposals are scheduled to  be presented to the Town Planning Board during its December 19, 2017 meeting. Our plea for your financial support is URGENT.
