All Members and supporters of West End Esher Cricket Club

Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all well during these challenging times.

As you are aware we have been told that cricket has been indefinitely suspended due to the Covid 19 pandemic with no direction so far from the ECB or the Government as to when it will be safe to play recreational cricket again. We do however remain hopeful that some cricket will be played this season.

The club was formed in 1875 and has been played on the Green continuously since then, apart from a short break during the Second World War.  We run two Saturday League teams in the Fullers Brewery League in addition to a Sunday social team.
The Junior Section started in 2009 and has grown significantly with over 100 boys and girls from ages 6 to 15 regularly attending the Friday night coaching sessions on the Green in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

The club has ongoing commitments and expenses that need to be met,  including maintaining the square not just for this season but also for the future. The costs of  maintaining the square are approximately £7000 per season.  We are working with our groundsman to keep our costs to a minimum without compromising the ability to play on the square this season and beyond.  If you live near the club, you will have seen the results of the pre-season work we have done so far and I am confident you will all agree it is looking magnificent.

Our club like  most other cricket clubs is reliant on membership subscription income to operate . Thus far we have drawn upon  our  limited reserves and subscriptions from some members who have paid this to date.  We have explored the various avenues open to us for government and ECB funding but most are not applicable.  Where appropriate we are continuing pursuing these,  but it will be some time before the funds become available.

OUR APPEAL:
Can you please make a donation however small or large to help us  through these difficult times and give us the opportunity  to deliver cricket to the West End Esher community in the years ahead.

Thank you for all your support to WEECC over the years.  I can’t wait to see the green filled with cricketers and social club  members and their guests down at the clubhouse very soon.

Stay safe and well

Best Wishes

Mike Bacon (Chairman WEECC)
