Wepa!-Thon: Puerto Rico Relief

Wepa!Thon… Dance for Puerto Rico

This fundraiser is organized by Britton Struthers,  17-year-old second generation Puerto Rican (100% “Boricua de Corazón”), who chose a celebration-styled fundraiser because in good times and bad ones, nothing sums up the Puerto Rican people more than joy, partying, and dancing – a  spirit that has still been showing strong even after the disastrous effects of hurricane Maria.

Britton, named after the tallest peak in El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, believes happiness and unity are essential during this long-term recovery process.  It's for this reason she decided to raise money in two differnet ways.  She held an event with traditional Puerto Rican food and music, followed by a Zumba dance party.  It was attended by more than 400 people and raised thousands for the recovery efforts.  She is also raising funds via GoFundMe that go directly to Unidos por Puerto Rico, a Puerto Rican non-profit.

The great news is that Britton  has talked with representatives of Unidos por Puerto Rico.  She will be meeting them soon in Puerto Rico to personally deliver the funds raised from Wepa!Thon and ensure they are correctly used and put in the hands of the people who need them most.
