*****One Month Out Update*****
Katie is doing well in the calm between the storms. Her incision is healing nicely and she is enjoying the break before the radioactive iodine is given to her on November 14th. She will be in isolation for five days because even the very sweat from all her pores will be radioactive so no humans or animals will be allowed to go within five feet of her for that time.
Thanks to you all, we have paid our past medical bills and are now prepping for what is current and what is to come. We have an $1,150 bill from the pathologist who did her biopsies in August (was $6,000 before insurance), one from Fort Wayne Radiology for $45 (was $325) and estimated costs of $1,890 for dental work that has been put off due to Katie's other medical needs.
I am balancing trying to respect Katie's privacy while giving you the benefit of our transparency since you are so kind to donate to help us. Thank you. Another update will come after the radioactive therapy...
*****Post-Op Update*****
The lab confirmed there were five lymph nodes removed and there was cancer in three of them. Her remaining three parathyroid glands are working again so Katie will be weened from the calcium supplements. Her incision is healing nicely as was revealed by peeling the surgical tape today. The next step is to receive a radioactive iodine pill under the care of a radiation therapist to kill any microscopic thyroid tissue remaining in her system. That begins Friday, October 19th. Thank you so much for all your support and love sent our way.
*****Surgery Update*****
Katie's surgery to remove all cancerous tissue went well. She has use of her voice for talking but only up to a certain pitch for now. Her thyroid and a few lymph nodes were removed. She did lose one of her four parathyroid glands so had a little trouble regaining stable calcium levels. Out of medical necessity she was told she had to stay overnight for three consecutive nights until it stabilized. She is home now, recovering and is whistling a lot.
Again, a huge thank you to all who helped make the initial part of this campaign a success. We will update once again when we have the follow up visit with the surgeon next week.

As promised, Katie will be doing a live concert on Facebook on Saturday, September 22nd at 8 PM (Eastern) in case this is the last opportunity to use her voice talent. She plans on performing for thirty to forty minutes.
She has agreed to also have a live audience while performing for her Facebook audience so if you are local and want to be there with her you may go to the Grace Presbyterian church building at 1811 Fairhill Road in Fort Wayne to the upper room and take in the performance. We have permission from the staff there. Here's a link to the location:

With what you have donated and other donations outside of this campaign we have far exceeded our initial goal!
It is right in this case not to assume every expense is covered but the two major expenses, the surgeon and the hospital, will be covered 100% as we have reached our Out-of-Pocket maximum for the year. Only the anesthesiologist, pathologist (if needed) and pathology lab (if needed) are questionable if they are not in-network. Those could amount to between $900 and $1,200 and your donations will cover that and then some.
Experience tells me to leave this campaign open for the period of the surgery and the short term after in case complications arise. We will update you after the surgery on the 27th and after the post surgery follow-up consultation on the 9th of October with the surgeon. In the meantime we ask only for your prayers and good juju and look for details coming soon about her promised performance.

I would like to raise funds for Katie's cancerous thyroid removal surgery on September 27th and all of our other backed up medical bills not covered by insurance.
For the surgery, it turns out, they will not do it if they do not have all the money up front. We have insurance through our most beneficent employer, Aunt Millie's Bakeries, however, the insurance will not cover all of the cost for this and other expenses related to it.
I am waiting to find out the final numbers for the surgery but we are at more than $5,000 past due with other medical expenses and are making large monthly payments to pay that down. Any donation you make to help with these bills which include Parkview Hospital ($3,600) and Parkview Physicians Group ($310), Summit Radiology ($25), Integrity Physical Therapy ($965) and Fort Wayne Orthopedics ($503) will be a wonderful way to lighten our "light and momentary troubles".
I will update the goal once we get numbers from our insurance company and the E.N.T. center to include our out-of-pocket expenses.
Anything we receive above that revised goal we will donate to HOPE worldwide.
Katie may lose her voice permanently during this surgery so she has decided to give a live concert on FaceBook on September 22nd as a possible last opportunity to give her talent to the universe. Details will be coming.
