Hi everyone. I'm hoping to raise money for 2 sit on top kayaks for me and my 7 year old to help us clean the river more effectively and keep wildlife safe. I've been canoeing for 7 years now on a inflatable and the last year I have noticed alot of rubbish and hazards that pose I risk to wildlife along a short stretch of the river Wensum. (mainly between the Hellesdon mill and New Mills Yard.) Its such a beautiful stretch with lots of wild life including yellow belly turtles which are not native to the uk and the river Wensum was such a life line to Norwich many years ago. Me and my young lad have been going out trying to clear as much rubbish and hazards as we can but we could do better. The problem with an inflatable is that there is a limit in what we can carry on board as in weight and also objects as they could puncture the canoe. The biggest risk is broken glass, tin and the dreaded fishing line with tribble hooks attached that I remove from weeds, lilly pads and over hanging trees. These of cause pose a risk to the wildlife and is why we inetend to keep cleaning. The benefits of having two sit on top kayaks as to one inflatable are obvious. No risks of puncture and able to carry more weight between us. I'll also be able to keep the more sharper stuff away from my child. They are very pricey and I'm hoping to raise some of the money for 2 fairly decent stable kayaks and gear to help in the process of collecting the rubbish ie better quality litter pickers and appropriate wet suits for the colder times of the year. Any help will be hugely appreciated to do what needs to be done as the government have continued cut backs in almost all sectors. Any questions or interest in coming out to help I welcome. Thank you for takeing your time to read this. Kind regards. James.
