“You have stage IV colon cancer”, are words you never expect to hear at age 41. Especially when you had no real symptoms, you eat right, do not smoke or do any type of drugs. You go in for what you think is a routine chest x-ray, to check to see if your asthma is flaring up, but you come out with the worst diagnosis imaginable. This is the current reality for my sister, Wendy.
At age 41, my sister is one of the most selfless people I know. She has always gone above and beyond to help others, sacrificing her own needs at times to ensure someone else had the help and support they needed... She never does anything with an expectation of something in return, she really is one of those good eggs people always talk about.
Wendy is a VPK (Voluntary Pre Kindergarten) teacher in Kissimmee, Florida. She will need to take immediate leave from her job to start aggressive chemotherapy. There is no cure for her, but the hope of a very long remission. This is the goal, but with more than 20 tumors in her lungs, as well as one in her colon, she has a long hard fight ahead of her.
As you can imagine with no income coming in, and no real savings, as VPK teacher are not paid very well, she needs any help she can get to cover the 30% she is required to pay by her insurance for her medical costs.
