I'm writing to ask for your financial support. I'm trying to raise funds for food and to pay bills over the next 2 months, including medical bills from summer medical procedures that remain unpaid. I have spinal arthritis and the pain is so debilitating that it makes it really hard for me to work a full time job. I am underemployed and unfortunately do not get paid for all of the activist and intellectual work that I do. As you know, this kind of work when done by Black womyn in this world is hardly ever recognized or funded.
You probably know me as a filmmaker and activist in life or online. I do a lot of work that you may or may not know about which I take very seriously but which I don't get paid for. Here's a short list:
-I have helped establish a thriving Black Political Education collective as a part of the Black Lives Matter movement. We've created together the literature below:
-I was one of the lead administrative organizers of a trip to Ferguson for hundreds of Black folks throughout the country for Black Lives Matter.
-I'm a co-founder of the Black womyn-lead arts collective "The New Negress Film Society" which helps to promote the work of cis-trans-queer womyn filmmakers
-I'm a co-founder of "I Write What I Like", a new online blog for political critique which focuses on addressing issues of Anti-Blackness and white supremacy.
-I've been working hard at developing a radical Black feminist feature film, which I haven't publicized yet, but I will begin to soon. (If you're interested in hearing how you could support that project, please let me know).
-I was one of the original founders of Cambio Creativo, an arts non-profit for youth based in the Afro-Antillean province of Colon, Panama.
If you are able to donate at least $10, I can share with you a private link to one of my films, "savage". This short work is incredibly important to me and was produced with my blood, sweat and tears. Any donation, large or small, really helps.
I have a lot of exciting projects planned for 2015! I have a lot more of myself to give to current movements and my peoples.
