Wendy Wilson Needs an Insulin Pump

Donation protected

My mother's name is Wendy, and she's been a type 1 diabetic since the age of six. Despite being initially manageable at an early age, a host of issues eventually pervaded into her daily life from her teenaged to adult years. In her early 20s, Wendy began to experience partial blindness and general acuity problems. At this stage in her life, is now legally blind, despite numerous surgeries in an attempt to preserve her vision.

At this point, my mother has now been diagnosed with a progressive type of multiple sclerosis which has added to the rate of her eye sight's deterioration, and taken away her ability to walk without struggle. The cost of the medications and therapies for treating her multiple Sclerosis will be upwards of $45,000 - $60,000 a year.

What my mother needs at this point in time is a new Insulin Pump. The insulin pump is a vital tool in treating her Diabetes as well as improving her general quality of life. Her current insulin pump is almost 8 years old, and has shown signs of deterioration due to age.

The urgency is immediate as her vision and health has begun to rapidly deteriorate in the last year and a half, and it is necessary for her to learn and adopt a newer insulin pump before her loss of vision is complete.

Our current medical plan covers the consumable supplies of type 1 treatment, such as test strips, insulin, and lancits; however, cost of a new insulin pump is not covered, combined with being unable to work, a new pump is beyond our reach without a little help.

The $7500 has a tangible benefit, as it will help us purchase the new pump for my mother sooner than later. However we are beyond grateful for any bit of help we can find.
