Wendy Montini's Soccer Scholarship

On September 12, 2018, the Del Mar Sharks lost one of their very own. Wendy Montini passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the mother of Gianna Montini who was a team captain and member of the DMCV Sharks 96/97 USYS National Championship Team.
Aside from being an avid soccer mom, Wendy was in charge of fundraising for the team, which included numerous events throughout the many seasons the girls have played together. Her skills to the DMCV Sharks included her ability to handle the administrative and organizational fundraising needs to include an incredible attention to detail, professional demeanor in all her relationships, and warm heart for others that could be seen in her smile and demonstrated in her quiet and diligent ways.
Wendy helped to organize and distribute food when the girls traveled throughout the country on their tenacious pursuits of national titles. The players have since continued on to collegiate level soccer and academics while the majority are now completing their senior years of college soccer.
What began as an incredible soccer experience positively impacting each of the girls, also grew into a family who still remains so very close and are deeply saddened by Wendy’s passing. Wendy is survived by her husband Sam and their beautiful daughters Gianna who is a senior and soccer captain at Auburn University and Mia a sophomore at Texas Christian University.
Wendy looked out, loved and cared deeply for every player on the team. To honor her in light of this terrible tragedy, in coordination with the DMCV Sharks organization, the team and Montini family have created the Wendy Montini Women’s Soccer Scholarship Fund. It will aid future girls Sharks who might not have the means to play and enable recipients to experience a quality soccer experience, which is the mission of DMCV Sharks. Donations made here will specifically be designated for this scholarship.
