Wendy Mahler, our good friend and former Anthem Associate, has recently been diagnosed with mandible cancer. Doctors have determined that they need to act quickly and treat this cancer very agressively. Wendy recently started treatment at UC Davis having chemo once a week with simultaneous radiation treatments 5 times a week. Treatment will last until apx Sept 11th. Since leaving Anthem apx 1 year ago and dealing with several health issues before being diagnosed with this cancer in her jaw, Wendy has been unable to work and her current health coverage is expensive on her limited disability income. Any funds raised will help Wendy pay her co-pays, out of pocket maximum, insurance premiums, as well as additional costs for transportation back and forth to Davis 5 days a week, and additional in-home nursing assistance not covered on her plan. Not having to worry about paying these bills will give Wendy peace of mind to concentrate on getting better and keeping up her strentgh to deal with this agressive treatment. Any amount you can offer is greatly appreciated and will be a tremendous help. Also please keep Wendy in your thoughts and prayers as she gets through these difficult days ahead.
For those of you that may not know me, I, Lynn (Marilyn)Cummings-Oakes, work at Anthem and worked with Wendy for the past 11 years while she was working for Anthem in Walnut Creek. We quickly became good friends while working together even though we were not in the same office. Astrid Godoy has also worked with Wendy all these years as well. All the donations received will be used to help Wendy cover any medical expenses that aren't covered by her medical insurance. I will have the funds transfered to my checking account (after the fees are subtracted) from the campaign and then I will send Wendy a check so that she can deposit the money into her account to pay her medical bills. Since my goal was to surprise her with the donations, I don't have her banking information to send the funds directly to her, so this way I can present her with a check for the donations from all her wonderful friends, co-workers, and friend's of friends.
