Wendy and Gary NYC Marathon Costs

Donation protected
Wendy and Gary Cremeens (Team Cremeens) have been selected to walk / run the 2018 NYC Marathon on November 4, 2018!!!

In the description below, we go over more of the details regarding some personal fundraising efforts; however we know budgets are tight, and some people may still want to support our efforts and can't financially.  We created a way for you to virtually support us via a Facebook Event called 2018 NYC Marathon Virtual Encouragers for Team Cremeens (If Needed Click - More Below)

Everyone person that donates, we will add their name, company, or organization to our t-shirts and sweatshirts.  We will wear these shirts during our training runs, the race, and whenever possible. We will ask your permission, if you donation is anonymous.

How did this happen?  Pure coincidence, we did not solicit any non-profits.  New York Road Runners STRIDES Program selected Wendy, and Brain Injury Association of New York State Gary.  We were both shocked and humbled and really did not know what to do next.

Why is it a big deal?  Not everyone can enter this race, The marathon has pace requirements, and lottery entries that happen for most people to be selected. Wendy and I were lucky to be chosen by two different non-profit organizations.

Otherwise, we probably would never have this opportunity to run and run / walk this amazing event.  In addition, and more importantly, we can help bring awareness to increasing NY Road Runners Strides Program, and to the Brain Injury Association of New York State.

Wendy was selected through New York Road Runners STRIDES Program, through the Lansing Central School District .  This is part of the Rising New York Road Runners  to support K-12 staff and youth with incentives to celebrate key milestones.

Gary was selected through the Brain Injury Association of New York State to run the NYC Marathon.

Starting in Febrary / March of 2018 Gary will be trying to raise $2,500 or more for Brain Injury Association of New York State.  It will be a different fund raising platform than this GoFundMe page.

Why did Gary choose the Brain Injury Association of New York State?

Did you know?   Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) happen every 13 seconds to someone in the U.S.

Gary's mother, at the age of 56, died from complications from a TBI.

Did you know?  More than 795,000 people have a stroke each year.

Wendy's father has suffered two strokes, his second stroke in August of 2017, and it has been challenging for her father, as well as family and friends.  Gary would like to bring more awarness about support groups for family members and friends that have loved ones who have suffered from a TBI or stroke. We will try to help educate people on how they can lower their risks of a TBI or stroke.

Advocate and educate people who ride bikes to wear a helmet, and how to wear it properly.

New York issued a statement on their bicycle safety study including these numbers: Bicycle lanes and helmets may reduce the risk of death.  Almost three-quarters of fatal crashes (74%) involved a head injury (TBI). Nearly all bicyclists who died (97%) were not wearing a helmet.

There are many videos on YouTube that are quite graphic showing people being hit not wearing a helmet while riding a bike. This video does NOT contain any graphic images; however, it does contain some language afterwards that could be considered offensive.  Keep in mind, this person had a collision with a DEER, not a 4,000 lbs CAR

Who will benefit from funds raised?

Wendy and Gary Cremeens will benefit from this GoFundMe Campaign, this is meant to help offset the costs of the race and other expenses related to the race.  Based on experience, we both anticipate  a variety of expenses that we will be responsible for that will probably exceed $3,000 regarding our participation in and training for the NYC Marathon, and the causes we are working to bring to a higher level of awareness.

The money you are donating is a gift to Wendy and Gary Cremeens, and NOT to a Non-Profit Organization.  As stated, Gary will be doing fund raising on another platform for Brain Injury Association of New York State in February / March of 2018.

The funds from this Go Fund Me campaign will help with expenses associated with the race, and Gary will be using some of the funds to help with some marketing and outreach efforts regarding his fund raising efforts.

Any amount of money we greatly appreciate.  We are excited and nervous about running or run / walking the 2018 NYC Marathon!  In addition, we are very excited about how your support can help make a difference, even if it is a small dent regarding everything we stated above.

On this specific GoFundMe Platform, we will be paying taxes on any gift amount you give us, as we are not a non-profit organization.  Therefore you will not be able to take a tax deduction for this gift.

This will be Wendy's FIRST marathon, and Gary's fifth marathon.  Helping us offset the costs associated with the event, and your help with other costs with marketing and outreach efforts for TBI/Strokes and preventive education are some of the many reasons we are extremely grateful.

Not able to give a gift to our GoFundMe campain?  Words of encouragement in person or via social media (Facebook Event Page), hi-fives in person or virtually would mean the world to us. Wendy is extremely nervous! It is really important to both of us to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, as well as, education and awareness of TBI and strokes. For many people, fear prevents them from taking that first step toward wellness or education, we are hoping to turn that fear into hope.

We have made the committment to run, or run / walk the 26.2 miles; however, having your support will help push us forward and keep us putting one foot in front of the other.

What if you raise more than your goal?  If we are that blessed, we will use that money for the missions we have stated above, and will post about it throughout the year.

Below is a breakdown on how we anticpate the money to be spent.

NYC Marathon Race Entry is approximately $300 Each, total of $600

Wendy and I will pay all taxes on anything given to this GoFundMe Campaign, as we are just two people trying to raise to important causes close to our hearts.  Both non-profits do not supply any of the costs listed above, they are the responsibility of both Wendy and I.

Now Let’s Talk About the Nonprofit Side  : )

Marketing and outreach costs for events regarding the New York Road Runners STRIDES Program and The Brain Injury Association of New York State are yet to be to be determined.

Creating events, and outreach will help raise funds and awareness for both causes and nonprofits.

Gary Cremeens will be giving The Brain Injury Association of New York State his credit card and a guarantee he can raise at least $2,500 for their organization.  This is a seperate campain and goes directly to the Brain Injury Association of New York State.  It will be done on different fund raising platform.

Their mission? of the Brain Injury Association of New York State is to minimize brain injury through prevention and to support, educate and advocate for individuals with brain injuries and their families.

Wendy Cremeens will be helping raise awareness regarding the Risning New York Road Runners STRIDES program.

Their mission?  Rising New York Road Runners is free. NYRR continues to support K-12 staff and to provide youth with free incentives to celebrate key milestones. They supply resources, online curriculum, and databases, all  free. Helping young people grow into strong, confident runners is a central part of NYRR’s mission.

In addition, Wendy and Gary often say, active body equals an active mind!

Thank you!
