My three weeks in Uganda with 22 stars foundation are over, however, I can't forget that smiles full of joy and that eyes full of hope

During my stay, I visited the poorest slums in Uganda, populated by survivors from the war of the North. Here basic and standard services that we give for granted are considered a luxury. People live in malnutrition, with no access to clean water and basic sanitation.

75% of them has resulted HIV positive and struggle to pay the rent, get food and the medication they need.
Among them, many are kids. Most of the time, they are raised just by their mothers, as the father died during the war or decided not to take care of the kids.
Mothers struggle to send their kids to school, the education is expensive and before paying the school fees they need to pay the rent and the food necessary to live.
22 stars foundation has sent so far 165 kids to schools, a great progress but it is not enough.

As a walked through the slums I still saw many kids, starting from 3 years old, working in stone queries in dangerous condition instead of getting the proper education every child deserves to.

They all dream to be doctors, nurses, school teachers, one day, but this can be possible just with education.
It is the only way for a better future.
As a slowly readapt to a western lifestyle, I can not stop thinking how even a small contribution can have a big impact in the slums.
How?
You can help in 4 ways:
1) Make a general contribution for mosquito nets and a malaria treatment (Uganda has the the world’s highest malaria incident. Believing or not Malaria is still the primary cause of death in Uganda. Approximately 100,000 people die each year from this disease).
2) Make a contribution for a water filter that will provide access to clean water for one family.
3) Sponsor a child for one year. By doing this, a kid will go to school thanks to your contribution. He/She will have access to a clean uniform, proper education and food. You will receive the details of the kid you have sponsored and the school reports 3 times a week.
4) General Donation of even 1 EUR for food and toys to play with.
Why Uganda?
Twenty years of civil war took a heavy toll on children. Although there is peace now in Uganda, the battle against poverty continues. The parents of most of our kids are illiterate, traumatized, HIV positive, became pregnant at a very young age, and have to care for a large family. Many of the kids lost one of their parents or even both.
A better future is possible and once they will be doctors, teachers or engineers, they will also be able to give back to the communities.

Le mie tre settimane in Uganda con la fondazione 22 stars sono giunte al termine. Tuttavia, non riesco a dimenticare quei sorrisi pieni di gioia e speranza.
Durante la mia permanenza, ho visitato i quartieri più poveri dell'Uganda, abitati da sopravissuti alla guerra civile che ha afflitto il pease per un ventennio. In queste realtà anche servizi che diamo per scontato come accesso ad acqua pulita, sanità e elettricità sono considerati un lusso.
Le condizioni sono di malnutrizione, carenza di igiene basica e mancanza di acqua.
Più di 75% della popolazione è risultato HIV positivo ma con impossiblità ad acceddere alle dovute cure che una tale malattia necessita.
Molti sono bambini, cresciuti con la sola mamma, visto che nella maggior parte dei casi, i loro papà sono morti durante la guerra o scappati per evitare di prendersi cura di una famiglia troppo numerosa. In casi estremi, i bambini sono stati abbandonati da entrambi i genitori.
Molto spesso anche l'accesso all'educazione primaria è considerato secondario in quanto, si deve prima pensare a beni primari come cibo e sanità.
Grazie alle donazioni, 22 stars ha finora garantito l'accesso all'educazione a 165 bambini.
Ma non è abbastanza.
Camminando per le aree disagiate, ci sono ancora tantissimi bambini di 3 anni o poco più costretti a lavorare in condizioni pericolose per poco più di 0.30 centesimi.
I loro sogni sono di essere dottori, infermieri o ingegneri. Sogni, che non possono essere possibili senza la dovuta educazione.
É l'unico modo per un futuro migliore.
Mentre mi sto riadattando ad uno stile di vita europeo, non riesco a togliermi dalla testa come anche un piccolo contributo può avere un grande impatto in Uganda.
Come?
Potete aiutare in 4 modi:
1) Donare per una zanzariera o per medicinali per curare la malaria (in Uganda la malaria è ancora la causa maggiore di morte. Circa 100,000 persone muoiono ogni anno a causa di questa malattia).
2) Dare un contributo per filtrare l'acqua e renderla potabile. Molti abitanti si ammalano a causa della quantità di batteri presente nell'acqua.
3) Sponsorizzare un bambino e far si che quest'ultimo possa andare a scuola. Riceverete tutti i dettagli del bambino o della bambina e anche la pagella 3 volte l'anno.
4) Fare una piccola donazione, di anche solo un euro che verrà utilizzato per giochi e cibo
Perchè l'Uganda?
Dopo 20 anni di guerra civile, in Uganda c'è pace ora ma la battaglia contro la povertà continua.
Un futuro migliore è possibile, perchè i futuri ingegneri o dottori saranno in grado di fare la loro parte, a loro volta per la società e di creare una catena positiva che permetterà un miglioramento delle condizioni di vita.
