Hi friends. My name is Teresa Sparks and I am managing this GoFundMe for the wonderful and hilarious Myles Goldin.
Myles has been diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer that has metasticized to her liver.
In her own words, here's what happening:
Hi folks, Okay so you may or may not know that last year 2016 was a year of, shall I say, health discoveries!
In September of 2016, right before my Medicaid ended, I had a lumpectomy. I had a lump the size of a golf ball in my left breast. That was removed and I was working with a wonderful surgeon. Of course the conversation went to Chemo and Radiation. I chose not to do that. When I listened to how my body would react to chemo, I felt sick to my stomach and started retching. When I put myself in the place of no chemo, my body felt alive and healthy.
The surgeon had gotten everything. He took out a lymph node or two and got all the margins of the golf ball.
In November I went and got a blood test that the Naturopath had recommended. She has cancer herself (Ovarian) and she lives with it and watches it and as far as I can tell, is thriving. It grows, it shrinks, it stabilizes. The blood test was a blood test looking for the protein that cancer creates called ENOX2. If there is ENOX2 in the body, then you've got cancer somewhere. We gave it enough time to test take this expensive mf test. It came out negative for ENOX2. I was thrilled.
My diet changed drastically and I lost some 15/20lbs. No sugar, no soy, no gluten, dairy, no root veggies. Basically what I could eat were clean meats, veggies and some fruits that consisted of granny smith apples, and berries.
Ooookay, at some point maybe last month in February, my stomach (what I thought was my stomach) was really beginning to bother me. I didn't feel like eating and when I touched where I thought my stomach was, it was hard. I went to Urgent care where they saw me. I also thought maybe I was ODing on nuts. I mean a lot of nuts. More than your average squirrel could eat. I thought at that time, "Oh stop eating all those nuts that is why your stomach and pancreas are giving you some troubles today. "
Urgent care doctor palpated where my aches were and said, "this is your gall bladder and liver area. Stomach on the other side." It made sense to me, that the liver deals with fats and the gall bladder creates bile etc. She recommended getting an Ultrasound. Did that. Test came back to do another test (CT) and that my gall bladder was actually fine. It was my liver and there were some suspicious lesions on there. I mean like 3 lesions. The largest was 9cm and the smallest was 3cm. By the way, 9 cm is about 3.5 inches.
CT scan...check. Yep, lesions (thank you for the clearer picture). Biopsy.
That's where we are in terms of logistics and news.
I will say that I also have quit my job at Dillards. I could barely stand up for longer than 3 minutes at a time and all the polyester and synthetics really affected my body, since my immune system was down. No bike riding or climbing. I am deep gratitude about quitting and about meeting all the good people there. I am also so thankful for all of the people that have rallied, cared, driven, and listened to me. My mom, dad, Rebecca Bradford, E Bowman, Jim Johnson, Bethany Geisler, Shelly Fisher, and Ed Smutney. In their own way they have alleviated some financial burdens and given me a lot of encouragement. There are many more and if you're reading this and I didn't mention your name, now is not the time to get mad. :) and I know you know.
