UPDATE: It's hard to believe it has been a little over a year since Shirley started down this journey. It has been a long hard won batter, but the good news is, she is now free of the disease that was killing her liver. A huge thank you to all who support her with donations, thoughts, and prayers.
Current Struggles: Due to the side effects of the medications she took, it really took a toll on her body, She has experienced kidney and heart failure, pneumonia, several broken vertebra in her back, losing her ability to walk without assistive devices, continual fluid building up in her lungs due to poor function liver, to name a few.
The medical bills continue to rise as well as demands for payment. If you can think of any ideas or an event that would be helpful to raise money on their behalf please let me know. They are struggling day to day to make ends meet.

My mom Shirley is the walking picture of a medical miracle. It is clear she has a purpose to be here. Shirley has fought and won the battle of cancer, heart surgery, living with one kidney, multiple surgeries for intestinal problems, Muscular Dystrophy, Fibromyalgia, and yet she continues to be a living example that your time isn’t up till God says so. Most people do not know she is as sick as she is. During a life saving heart operation Shirley received a blood transfusion, which was tainted with Hepatitis C, this was back before the days of screening blood. She has lived the past 30 years with this exhausting disease, which is much like living with the fatigue and aches of the flu daily.
A new breakthrough treatment is making headway in the fight of Hep C and cirrhosis of the liver, approved only 3 months ago by the FDA. This medication, named Harvoni , is of course costly, ranging from $100,000-$450,000. Shirley was able to get a grant from the manufacturer, and is approved to start the treatment, but she needs $10,000 to pay for the 3 month treatment. (Plus travel expenses to the treatment facility) If she does NOT receive this treatment, her doctor estimates she has less than 2 years to live. Cure rates range from 94% to 99% with this treatment. This treatment option is not given unless things are dire and your liver is in failure. Negative side effects are already happening. Please help us raise the much needed funds to save my mom’s life. Shirley is the kind of person who does not want to bug her friends and family. This is why the vast majority does not know the true nature of all the physical battles she fights. In fact she gave me, her daughter Jennifer, permission to create this account for her, but she doesn't want to bother her friends and family with a pitty or sob story and beg for charity. One thing I do know, both of my parents live on meager income and do not have the funds needed to take the next step, and I for one want my mother to live to continue to be the amazing example she is to me and to all of her grandchildren.
