Dorthy Gossett is fighting Cancer!

On January 18, 2018, our sweet Dorthy, youngest of "Fabulous 6" sisters, was diagnosed with Colon Cancer after the discovery of a tumor in a colonoscopy test. There is a need for financial assistance for the Gossett family due to extremely high medical expenses, plus a loss of income since Dorthy is self employed. Although the Gossetts are glad they have medical insurance, the family's monthly insurance premium has changed recently and they are paying 3x the original premium amount, which has caused additional financial hardship. Dorthy is still in the hospital as of today (March 7th). What began as an estimated 4-day hospital stay is now projected to be a total of 5 weeks before Dorthy will be released from the hospital. MEDICAL SUMMARY - Week #1:  Surgery was performed on February 12th to remove the tumor, plus removal of the sigmoid portion of the colon and one cancerous lymph node in that area.  A resection of the colon (to reconnect and close up the opening) was also performed. Week #2:  Unfortunately, the reconnection did not work well, and her colon began leaking into the abdomen within 48 hours after the surgery. Over the next week, the leak increased in volume, theatening her heart and other organs. As a result, an emergency surgery was then perfomed on February 21st to bypass the colon in an attempt to help heal the torn colon. The surgery was a success. Week #3:  The surgery was sucessful, however a new setback with heavy bleeding occurred. So a new surgery was then performed to cauterize the area that was bleeding. It was a success. Week #4 (currently):  Three more mini-surgeries are being performed under anesthesia to add an internal wound vacuum to speed up healing of the leak area. Week #5 (next week): Two more similar mini-surgeries will be performed. Then, she hopes to be released from the hospital by the end of week #5. Once recovery from the surgeries is complete, as a precaution, Dorthy will begin chemo treatments for approximately 4-6 months.
