Welcoming Patients with Art

Donation protected
We are a group of pediatricians who want to make sure all of our diverse patients and their families know we stand with them at this challenging moment in our country’s history. We ask you to donate toward commissioning a new piece of art which any doctor can put up to help convey this message.

Many of the children we care for live in families which may feel especially vulnerable these days-- recent policy changes and cultural shifts have made all kinds of diverse families feel less at home in our country. We want these children and their families, regardless of their ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, gender orientation, family configuration, immigration status, or other attributes, to feel not only safe, but welcomed, respected, and cherished when they come to see their doctor.

One way to convey this message is through art-- a universal language which can touch and open the heart. We have partnered with Rafael Lopez, an internationally recognized artist and children’s book illustrator to create a poster which health care providers can hang in their offices to help make the families they care for feel seen, welcomed, and supported.

Rafael is the perfect artist for this commission-- he describes himself as “driven to produce and promote books that reflect and honor the lives of all young people.” Indeed not only has he illustrated several children's books with vibrant colors and evocative designs, he has also worked with communities to create beautiful murals which  transform their environments. Your donation will help fund this commission to create a beautiful new piece of art in support of children and their families!

Once the image is finished you will be contacted with the opportunity to purchase a poster; The finished product will be a beautiful 24 inch x 36 inch poster.

Any additional money raised beyond the commission and expenses will be donated to the East Bay Children's Book Project
http://www.eastbaychildrensbookproject.org/  and programs working on immigrant rights.
