Welcome to America!
Donation protected
When President Trump signed the Executive Order banning refugees and other legal immigrants from seven countries, Nada (whose name is concealed for her safety) was on her way to the airport in northern Iraq. When she tried to board, her ticket was torn up, and she was told that she was not welcome in America.
She had been waiting nearly two years to come to America, on a Special Immigrant Visa created for Iraqis that risked their lives for America as interpreters. Khalas, her husband, had worked alongside our troops during the war, and in more than one instance saved American lives. He has been in the U.S. for six months, waiting for his wife to finally be granted the same visa.
After much public outcry, she was allowed to board a flight to the U.S. a few days ago.
We want to send a welcome gift from Americans who oppose the ban, and who wish to thank them for what they did on behalf of our country.
Khalas and Nada are in their early thirties. He was valedictorian in his university. We are certain they'll thrive in this country, but wanted to embrace the American tradition of helping the newest among us. They are not looking for hand-outs, and have not asked for this.
This is not a non-profit initiative. We will not keep a penny of any contributions.
We have told them that if they end up receiving more than they feel they need, they can direct it to other refugees in need of help.
