My name is Chris and I am an addict. I started smoking pot and drinking at the age of 15. I have been addicted to opiates since the age of 19. I have used Heroin and Meth intravenously for the last 4 years. I am 24.
I am writing to you through my mom she is visiting me in jail today 6/14/2017. I am here because of the choices I make when I am high. What I have learned in jail is I am not a person of jail and the politics that come with it. I do not have jail mentality – I chose to keep to myself for the most part, by reading, writing and drawing. I only engage with a few people in my pod. In jail I have learned you have to look and act a certain way – I am committed to not making jail my cycle of living.
I am writing to you to express my desire and commitment to LIVE. I have had one to many near death experiences. I am asking if you would consider praying with and/or partnering with my family to provide a monetary sponsorship to help me enter a faith based rehabilitation program called The Good Samaritan in Coeur D Alene Idaho.
In the last 3 years I have been in and out of treatment both in-patient and outpatient. Faith based curriculum was not included in these programs. I have had a total of 19 months clean in 3 years, 8 months, 6 months and most recently a 5-month period of time. All three times I chose God as my higher power, what I didn’t chose was to learn how to have a relationship with Him.
At The Good Samaritan I will have positive male role models who will walk beside me as I process what keeps me bound to my addiction. I will be taught how to be a man of God. What it looks like to be a productive member of society and how to be one. I will learn how to fill the emptiness I have inside with a higher power that will provide me eternal life and long lasting recovery. I will be surrounded by others who have and have had the same struggles I do. I will have accountability and structure. This is what YOUR sponsorship will provide me.
The program will be a total of eight months. For 2-3 months I will very minimal contact with my family. I will attend classes, bible study, church, and counseling etc. to give me a foundation to move into transitional housing and continue treatment with The Good Samaritan.
I have a journey ahead of me – I am ready to travel. I have consequences to face for my actions and choices while high – I am guilty I have admitted it. I have faith and I feel this faith based rehabilitation program will save my LIFE. That it will provide me additional tools and the spiritual component I am missing. That it will provide me FREEDOM from Bondage and Freedom to LIVE.
