Weigand Science Olympiad 2017-2018!

The 2017-2018 School Year is about to begin! And for us at Weigand Elementary, that means another year closer to winning the GOLD MEDAL at the Los Angeles County Science Olympiad Competition!

Last year we improved our score in the competition by 50 points and even ranked first in a few events (egg drop and rubber band catapult)!



For those of you who don' t know, we are Weigand, a Title 1 LAUSD public school located in the heart of Watts- and our students LOVE science.  We created an after-school science program 3 years ago which has become a huge source of pride and excitement in our school culture.  We can't wait to kick it off again this year and make this the best year yet-- PLUS we will have an added robotics component due to a grant from VEX Robotics!

BUT--- these aspring student scientists need your help! 

The Science Olympiad program, which requires an entry fee to the competition, bus funding, and all sorts of materials for its biweekly classes is run entirely by generous financial contributions from all those who donate through GoFundMe, as well as material costs that come out of pocket by the passionate staff and amazing volunteers who are already donating their own time after school. 

If you have a moment to share, or a few dollars to spare, PLEASE HELP US get these kids engaged in the sciences and excited about learning, creative thinking and problem solving.
