The Webutuck Challenge

The Back Story

This project melds two Webutuck traditions--the Money Wall and a senior tradition for the Spring Pep Rally.

Mr. Reid’s Money Wall needs no explanation for those who know him or who have been in his class. Collecting $1 for swear words uttered in his class, Mr. Reid’s math classes take the collected money and vote to make a donation. Those who have received donations in the past have been St. Jude, ASPCA and a few others. (Rumor has it, students swear just to donate!)
Each spring, the Warriors celebrate student athletes. Part of that celebration is pieing; sometimes it’s a teacher, often it’s seniors. Regardless of who gets pied, students look forward to this long-standing tradition.

Needing a place for his classes’ collections, Mr. Reid decided it would be proper during this time of need to marry the Money Wall with the pieing in order to maintain these Webutuck traditions while giving kids something to laugh about and lift their spirits while they and their families are stuck at home trying to manage online learning.

The Goal

Nestled into the North East corner of the Hudson Valley, Webutuck is a small, rural community consisting of Amenia, Northeast, Wassaic and the village of Millerton, as well as parts of Ancram, Washington, Dover, and Stanford. Servicing these pastoral communities are three volunteer fire companies--Amenia, Millerton and Wassaic fire houses, staffed by nearly 100% volunteers. Always giving 100%, each of our fire companies works tirelessly to support its community, and this pandemic is no exception. All monies raised will go directly to the fire companies who are on the front line helping community members in need.

Shameless plug--fire departments rely on volunteers, and that means you. If you would like to help, we urge you to reach out and volunteer today.

The Event

Much like other challenges that have gone viral, we are asking people to videotape themselves being pied and make a donation of $5 for each pieing. A pie can be as simple as a tin of whipped cream. Please load your Pie in the Face video to YouTube and make sure in the description you label the video #WebutuckChallenge2020.   Donate at gofundme #WebutuckChallenge2020

These small fire companies have worked hard and will continue to, but they need your help.  Please consider a pie in the face and $5 dollars per pieing as a small way to say thank you for all they have done and will continue to do.  The more pies in the face the better we do for those who do so much for us.  Let’s do our best to get these firehouses a donation that they deserve.  Pie your friends, pie your neighbor, pie your co-worker, pie your dog—it’s all for a good cause! We are Webutuck and we are Webutuck Strong!
