WeArm
Hi my name is Okezue Bell, and I'm a 16-year-old, Nigerian-American, and Black researcher, social entrepreneur, and activist. I invented the WeArm, a 3D-printed cost-accessible (<$400) prosthesis for individuals with below-the-elbow amputations. It has been successfully tested on a sample of 12 individuals, recognized and supported by international corporations, including the International Science and Engineering Fair, the US Government, and Johnson & Johnson. In these preliminary tests, the WeArm outperformed gold-standard prostheses in robust movements.
I'm currently running a study pilot in Nigerian and Bosnian clinics to ensure demographic fit and am now looking to raise an additional round of funding for the implementation pilot, where several WeArms will be manufactured and rolled out to over 1,000 amputees.
