'Altern 8' Skydive for DEPRESSION
Mark Archer ... you all know the fella ....
Crowned Prince of the Rave as 'Altern 8'
People's Protector and Techno Overlord as Nexus 21
and member of other such musical groupings that include: Rhythm Mode D. /Bizzare Inc./Mr Nex/The Originators to name but a few.
Well .....around the festival camp fire, just the other night, we were humming old rave anthems, club classics and the odd drunken sea shanty, all whilst staring wide-eyed skywards in complete awe and wonderment, when a voice from the back spoilt the moment quizzickly chirping up:
'Hey! I wonder if the 'Altern 8 boiler suit' would be suitable attire enough to go and leap out of a perfectly good airplane in???
The initial collective gasp quickly melted into hushed communal mumurings, the sound of virtual planning bubbled over the crackle of the group's night fire, which confirmed to me, merely a passive bystander, that this gang of ravers and late-night misbehavors wanted nothing less than to see that boiler suit clad sight -
Mark 'Altern 8' Archer, always the man of steel, threw down his animal horn drinking vessel, slowely wrose to his feet and through the camp fire, behind which he cast an almost super-hero sized sillouhette against the dark night sky ..... surveyed the crowd gathered before him, shot a knowing glance to his new wife at his side .... there was an uncomfortable silence ...... and then ...
the voice of our hero boomed.
"I ..... will .......... DO .... IT!!! "
OH! how we cheered and roared with glee until, again, our collective hoobilations were interrupted by yet another fireside heckler:
"YOU'RE MENTAL" the malnourished looking raver in the leather box jacket declared.
"OOOOOOOH! ..... ", was the icey collective reaction, each one of us trying to identifiy the now most unpopular member of our impromptu camp-fire gang.
Luckily, our hero has many years of headphone damage, his reply a direct result of that:
"Good Idea", the masked one replied.
"We shall do this for DEEP INSIDE, and we will raise a King's ransom for charitable folk who support depression and mental health".
We hugged, rejoiced and shared rave tales of old that very night, merryment until the morning sun had risen in the East and the party had all but departed.
I thought I had caught one last glimpse of the newly wed Archers, that bleary eyed morning. I can't say for sure but, through the trees, just over there to your right, I could have swore I caught a glimpse of them, taking it in turn to jump from the back of that very expensive tour bus, both landing ever so daintily, you know that cool little 'land & roll' thing you see in old war movies?
I mean .... he's been in a lot of things has Mark Archer.
Do you think he was ever special forces?
I wouldn't be surprised!
