Military veteran needs help

Donation protected
My brother Chris was a 4th generation military serviceman, who served his country proudly for 13 years in Tokyo, Panama, Germany, and the Middle East before a service-related shoulder injury ended his career. After 3 surgeries, including one that removed a shredded labrum tendon and reattached his bicep directly to his bone, he is still in constant pain, unable to work, and despite 4 letters from 4  different VA doctors stating he is physically unable to work and several related appeals, he has continually been denied ANY disability pay, pay that is promised in the event of injury, to our service men and women when they  enlist. Although the county Veterans Affairs office has paid two months of his overdue mortgage, the bank will not apply that payment because he is still in arrears. They intend to "keep the payment in a separate account until [he] is able to bring [his] account current, at which time [they] will apply the payment." So despite this small bit of help,  which the bank is apparently legally allowed to hijack, hold hostage,  and make interest from, he is further rather than less in arrears.  He is also behind on his truck and child support--his 10-year-old son is pictured with him--payments.

But Chris is not a quitter, so he enrolled in a course to be licensed as a home inspector, a job that would afford him a good income without the physical demands of his previous employment. He completed the course work and was duly certified but was unable to get the necessary insurance and file the necessary forms because he is in arrears on his child support. So his initiative in finding and making a new way to earn a living and make a home for his son and family has stalled. . . because of a bloated bureaucracy's ridiculous red tape.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a man, a soldier, who served his country, who served YOU, faithfully. A soldier who missed family birthdays, weddings, graduations, kids growing up for 13 years. A soldier who, like so many of our service men and women, celebrated his own birthdays, Christmases, Easters, and Thanksgivings in foreign countries far from the comforts of home and the love of family. When a service-related injury brought him home for good, he was denied the benefits he was promised when he enlisted. It is no myth that the VA and our government balk at honoring those promises, that they actively work to frustrate attempts to collect on those promises, that they breathe a sigh of relief every time an appeal to fulfill those promises is denied and filed away from the light of day. If another couple months pass without a resolution in his favor, my brother will lose his home, a house he bought so that he could host family dinners and holiday gatherings and visiting friends in an effort to recapture those moments he missed over those years of service. He will also lose his truck, and we will have yet another injured veteran on the streets, abandoned by the government that reneged on its promises to provide proper care for one of its soldiers.

Chris had another appointment with yet another new doctor several days ago, a doctor who confirmed the other 4 doctors' assessment that Chris's injury has rendered him unable to work. He faces another appeal process that will likely take the next 4-6 weeks. He also faces another potential surgery, more rehab, and more time off work.  And if we can't get some help from good people, Americans willing to step in to support a veteran the government is doing its best to sweep under the rug, Chris will lose his home, his truck, his ability to make another career, his dignity and self-respect. Please, let's not let that happen. 100% of your donations will go toward the mortgage on Chris's home, the loan for his truck, his child support payments, and then his insurances and forms for his new business. It has been proven all over the world that Americans are the most helpful, supportive, and compassionate givers. Please be those things for my brother. Thank you.
