Deaf Centers of Nevada is the only organization of its kind here in Nevada. We want to continue serving our community in the ways that they deserve for years to come! The state of Nevada has 38,000 Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons between the ages of 18-65 that, on average, will receive services at least once if not more in their lifetime. DCN currently has a staff of 17 total in both Reno and Las Vegas to serve the needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the entire state of Nevada.
DCN is an advocacy and resource center. Our philosophy is “cradle to grave” services for those within the state of Nevada. Our mission and vision at DCN is to advocate, educate, and serve. We advocate for the rights of full and equal access to education and employment, educate the community on the unique communicative needs, abilities, and accomplishments of the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, Deaf-Blind, and Speech Impaired individuals, and serve to encourage our community to live independently and productively.
Because of the high demand and our successful client satisfaction rates, our organization submitted a request for additional funding to help our organization meet these needs. Unfortunately, the request was disregarded by our grant overseers and the available funding does not meet the needs and demands of our services. As you may know, this directly impacts the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Late-Deafened, Deaf-Blind, and Speech Impaired community, which is why we are reaching out to the public for your support in our continued growth.
If you were to donate to DCN today, this could assist us with hiring more staff to accommodate the ever-growing needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients. These funds, if successfully raised will help us move to a bigger facility, so we aren’t meeting with clients in the kitchen. At this point in time, the Las Vegas office only has one interview room and one board room in which we can meet our clients. If we have more than two appointments at the same time, we resort to meeting in the staff kitchen in order to satisfy the client’s right to confidentiality.
The Deaf and Hard of Hearing community would also appreciate your support in the following ways:
